What is the full form of NDC?

The full form of NDC is the National Development Council. It is also called Rashtriya Vikas Parishad. It is the main body for making decisions and discussing the plans made on development matters in India. The body is presided over by the Prime Minister. It came into being on 6th August 1952. Structure of The Council

The council consists of all the top leaders working at the national and state levels. The members included in the council are as follows:

  • Prime minister

  • Central Ministers

  • Chief Minister

  • Members of NITI Aayog

History

The state government has control over the implementation of policies in their states. A council had to look over such planning and implementation.

  1. The idea of setting up such a council was proposed in 1946 by the Planning Advisory Board. The chairman of the board was K.C. Neogi. The idea was to make an organization that will include representatives of States and provinces for decision-making.

  2. The Planning Commission drafted NDC in its first five-year plan to ensure the participation of state representatives in making policies as well as looking over the implementation of the policies

  3. NDC came into being on 6 August 1952. The first meeting was held under the Prime Minister under then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

  4. By now 57 meetings of the council have been held with the last one held on 27 December 2012.

  5. The abolition of the community has been proposed but there is no firm decision to resolve it. It is due to the NITI Aayog's governing council which has the same role as NDC.

NITI Aayog And Its Relation With NDA

National Institution for Transforming India or NITI Aayog came into existence in 2014. It works in the thinking and advisory body. It advises the government on strategic policy at the federal and state level. The government is looking forward to merging NITI Aayog and NDA and removing NDA. In addition to the members included in NDA, it consists of additional members like lieutenant governors of Union territory and vice chairmen who are nominated by the Prime Minister.
