The full form of NMDC is “National Mineral Development Corporation''. It is India’s largest producer and exporter of iron ore from the mines of Chhattisgarh and Karnataka. The administrative control of NMDC is under the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. Its headquarter is in Hyderabad, Telangana.
It also operates in various other minerals such as copper, rock phosphate, limestone, dolomite, magnesite, tungsten, beach sands, gypsum, bentonite, tin, etc. It operates the diamond mine at Panna in Madhya Pradesh which is the only mechanized mine in the country. Presently 22 million tonnes of iron ore is produced from Chhattisgarh mines, and 7 million tonnes of iron ore is produced from Karnataka mines.
