The full form of POSHAN is the PM's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment. A multi-ministerial convergence initiative called POSHAN Abhiyaan aims to achieve a malnutrition-free India by the year 2022. The goal of POSHAN Abhiyaan is to decrease stunting by increasing the utilization of important Anganwadi Services and enhancing the delivery of Anganwadi Services in the designated Districts of India with the highest malnutrition incidence. Its goal is to guarantee the healthy development of all fetuses, moms, and kids.
The POSHAN Abhiyaan is being implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) in 315 districts in the first year, 235 districts in the second year, and the remaining districts in the third year.
Numerous programmes have an impact on how well-nourished babies/children (aged 0 to 6), pregnant women, and nursing moms are. Despite these, the country has a high degree of malnutrition and related issues. Plans abound, but there is a lack of coordination and bringing the plans together to accomplish a single objective. Through a strong convergence mechanism and other elements, POSHAN Abhiyaan will work to achieve synergy.
In order to realize the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of a Superhit Bharat, the goal of the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Mah is to transform Jan Andolan into Jan Bhagidari. Poshan Abhiyaan, also known as the National Nutrition Mission (NNM), was launched in 2018 (although the programme was implemented in 2017) by the Government of India (GOI) with the aim of tackling the malnutrition problem prevalent in India.
The mission's main goals are to lower the rate of undernutrition and improve the nutritional status of children in the nation.
By 2022, the multi-ministerial campaign hopes to eradicate malnutrition from the nation.
The main programme for improving the nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers in India is called Poshan Abhiyaan.
The mission makes use of technology and departmental and module convergence.
The acronym "Poshan" refers to "Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition" and appears in the program's name.
The programme has particular goals for lowering low birth weight, anemia, stunting, and undernutrition.
The National Nutrition Mission's goal is to reduce stunting from 38.4% to 25% by 2022, as stated in "Mission 25 by 2020."
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Janani Suraksha Yojana, the Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG), the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, PDS, the National Health Mission, etc. are some of the other programmes.
The following is what the mission envisions for Anganwadi centers:
Giving Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) rewards for utilizing IT-based tools
Removing the registers AWWs use.
Determining the heights of kids at Anganwadi facilities.
The steady scaling up of the interventions under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Systems, which are supported by the World Bank, is another aspect of the goal.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI, is the implementing body.
Additionally essential to the mission is the National Institution for Transforming India Aayog. The Vice President of the National Council on India's Nutritional Challenges, which was established under the Poshan.
National Level: To encourage the use of native and local toys for learning in Anganwadi Centers, a national toy-creation workshop will be held.
State-Level Activities: Grandmother's Kitchen, or "Amma ki Rasoi," will be organized as part of the State-level activities. This will feature traditional, wholesome cuisine.
Throughout the month, great efforts will be made to connect traditional foods with nearby festivities. To ensure a healthier future for women and children, the State/UT(union territory) women and child development departments will carry out a number of thematic activities throughout the month and promote the value of holistic nutrition.
Panchayat level: At the panchayat level, local officials will carry out awareness campaigns under the direction of the relevant Child Development Project Officer and District Panchayati Raj Officers.
Poshan Panchayat Committees will collaborate closely with frontline workers including AWWs and accredited social health activists and Anganwadi workers. This would assist in resolving issues and facilitating the provision of services via Anganwadi Centers (AWCs), Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs), and other pertinent venues.
The goal is to guarantee that all expectant and nursing mothers, young children, and adolescent females receive essential Integrated Child Development services.
The main approach or pillars of the mission for POSHAN Abhiyaan implementation are Integrated child development service; Convergence; Behavioral change; International electrochemical Advocacy; Training and Capacity Building; Innovations; Incentives; Grievance Redressal.
The second POSHAN Pakhwada12 was held from March 8–22, 2020, to commemorate POSHAN Abhiyaan's second anniversary.
Community-Based Activities (CBE)-
Every month on the 8th and 22nd, 14 Community Based Events (CBE) are held in all of Anganwadi. The topics cover Annaprasan Diwas, Suposhan Diwas, celebrating becoming adulthood by preparing for preschool at AWC (Anganwadi Centre), public health messaging for bettering nutrition and preventing sickness, etc. 15.58 crore rupees will be spent, at a rate of 250 rupees per event and per AWC.
Day for Village Health, Sanitation, and Nutrition (VHSND)-On the 15th of each month, the Gram Panchayat and the health department collaborate to hold the 15 Village Health Sanitation Nutrition Day.
The establishment of the National Nutrition Mission (NNM) with a three-year budget of Rs. 9046.17 crores for 2017–18 was authorized by the Union Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, on November 30.
In the past three years, the amount of money allocated for POSHAN Abhiyaan has climbed from Rs. 950.00 crores in 2017–18 to Rs. 3061.30 crores in 2018–19 and to Rs. 3400.00 crores in 2019–20. With a budgetary allocation of 27.85 lakhs per district for the duration of the project, POSHAN Abhiyaan encouraged States/UTs to undertake repeatable nutrition-focused innovations in 2020–2021.
