PRMO is the first-level maths olympiad. PRMO stands for “Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad.” Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MTA) conducts PRMO every year in the month of August. It is the olympiad that leads to the participation of Indian students in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The main aim is to extract mathematical talent among various students in the country. All over the country, 25 states have been assigned for the training and selection of students for the olympiad contest.
Stage-1 PRMO (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad)
PRMO is the first examination. It is conducted for three hours containing thirty questions. The answers are to be given on an OMR sheet. To appear in the examination, we could have two language options-English and Hindi.
Stage-2 RMO (Regional Mathematical Olympiad)
RMO is the second examination. It is conducted for three hours containing six questions. The answers are to be given on an OMR sheet. To appear in the examination, we could have two language options-English and Hindi. Sometimes the examination may be conducted in regional languages.
Stage-3 INMO (Indian National Mathematical Olympiad)
INMO is the third examination. The students who are top performers in RMO across the different states got selected for INMO. It is conducted for four hours containing six tough questions. To appear in the examination, we could have two language choices - English and Hindi.
Stage-4 IMOTC (International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp)
The top performers of INMO are invited by HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) (approximately 35) to join the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp. During the training camp, students are examined via various tests. For the final stage, the best 6 students are selected and qualified.
Stage-5 Pre-Departure Camp
The selected team of the best 6 students goes through meticulous training and assessment programmes for 8-10 days prior to its decamping for IMO.
Stage-6 IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad)
The selected team of the best 6 students who got selected for IMOTC got a fortunate opportunity to represent India in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
