Pilot is one of highly paid profession any where around the world. To become a pilot you should be trained in a flying school recognised by DGCA ( directorate general of civil aviation) to get a pilot license. There are two types of aviation
- Commercial aviation
- Armed forces ( Indian airforce)
There three different training programs available for obtaining a pilot license
- Student pilot license at 16 years
- Private pilot license at 17 years
- Commercial pilot license at 18 years
The candidates need to undertake a written test, medical examination and interview.
The written pilot aptitude test will be based on the topic below
- Air regulation
- Air navigation
- Aviation meteorology
- Aircraft and engine management
The minimum criteria to join flying school will be a minimum of 50% marks in the +2 examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics as the main subject. Apart from educational qualification it requires physical fitness and medical examination.
The fees structure for the flying course and obtaining the pilot license is very high around 25 lakhs and above to become a complete pilot. The candidate should complete a 200 hours training to get the certificate.

If you aspire to become a commercial pilot, you will be required to complete flying training from any flying school which is recognized by the DGCA. DGCA is the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. So make sure to select a flying school recognised by DGCA before enrolling. Also ensure that the institute has sufficient facilities, lab, instructors and more. There are various type of training programmes offered by Flying schools like
SPL ie. Student Pilot License
PPL ie. Private Pilot License
CPL ie. Commercial Pilot License
So in order to become a commercial pilot, select a school which offers CPL training programme.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA- The eligibility criteria in most of the flying schools is that to become a commercial pilot you must pass your 12th board exams with subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Different schools might prescribe a minimum aggregate as per their own requirements. Other than this, they also lay down specific physical as well as medical eligibility criteria related to height, eyesight etc.
COST INVOLVED- The cost involved in order to complete commercial pilot training will differ from institute to institute. You can keep an estimate around 25 Lakhs to 35 Lakhs Rupees for the entire course. Additional Course details- For completion of this course as prescribed by DGCA you need to complete a minimum of 200 hours of training to complete the course. After completion too it is very essential to get Type Rating which is an additional certificate which includes additional training too. The cost of this will also be additional.
Career opportunities- The course would take around 8-10 months ideally and such courses offer dual/ solo, general flying, circuit & landing sorties. Instruments and cross country flights, skill tests, route checks and night flying rating as per DGCA requirement and as per offered by each individual institute. This license after completion of the course would be normally valid internationally. You can seek employment as pilot in Government and civil airlines or even in private companies , corporate companies, flying clubs which inclides a vast variety of career opportunities

You can also complete flying course by joining the IAF (Indian Air Force). Here you can take admission directly after Class 12th through NDA. For this mode of admission Physics as a subject in 12th in mandatory. You can get into IAF after graduation too through AFCAT. Best of luck!
