Dear Aspirant,
There are two ways that you can obtain an internship from thee IIT's . They are through the regular Summer Research Fellowship Programs (Paid Internship) and the Unpaid Internship. Depending on the branch and the internship, the internships may be available for even students outside the institute. The details of this research schemed internship is usually made available on the website. For example: IIT Roorkee, IIT Gandhinagar SRF, IIT Bhubaneswar SRF are known for their internship programs that follow a stipend of upto Rs 4,500 depending on the internship and professor involved. The Unpaid Internship will require you to email the faculty beforehand. The faculty profile will be available on the websites. This will require you to be more attentive and have clarity in your goals. Express your strengths, work experience or even skills in the email and share your learning outcome.
Factors that will be responsible in you getting an internship is your curriculum vitae which should stand out and highlight your skills. The administrator involved should be satisfied with your performance and the requirement should match. Demonstration of vocational skills also plays a role.
Now, if you plan to apply for an internship at a foreign University, it is best to be concrete on your research. Know the eligibility and the requirements of the Universities beforehand so you can fill out your application accordingly. Be sure to maintain your CGPA as that will be considered. Get a recommendation letter or reference by faculty that is specialised in the field. You can also participate in seminars and conferences that will help you expand your contacts.
Here are some foreign Universities or Programmes that offer internships: The University of Queensland Research Internship Program, NTHU Taiwan, University of Southern California (USC)’s Viterbi-India Program, DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, Charpak - Research Internship Program 2017 for the Universities in France.
