if you could get knowledge from internet these days then why bother to join any IIT's or prestigious college. Literally anyone could access to nptel course from any background from any age group. But why should we chase after them give more importance to them??

What you have asked is absolutely relevant because so much hype or rather it's a reality is created to join IITs/nits that most of the science background students have the vision to join the prestigious institutions.
Yes, you are right knowledge can be gained from anywhere irrespective of the college but what matters is the environment of the college and what changes will it occur in your personality in future. In government colleges , there is no much pressure of the studies as compared to the other colleges. You can invest that time to develop your skills. In addition placements is a factor .
