Magnification is basic the ability of an instrument to show a object in a larger manner.
Theoretically linear magnification of a simple microscope is the power of its lens.
Linear magnification of a compound microscope is the product of the power of the two lens.
Just a point to remember that if we are using oil of emersion then we can only use 100x as objective.
