Hello,

You need to sit with your child and identify the root cause of the problem. Why his performance started to decline? Is there something wrong with school? Or something in class that is disturbing? Also, you haven't specified anything about his performance in classes 9 and 10. Has the performance gradually been declining and you were ignoring the signs? Discuss with him why he's not studying and let him decide on which stream he wants to opt for? Even commerce and arts stream are not that easy. Let him take his own decision and you can guide him all along as it's only him who has to put in all the effort.

Dear Rakesh, this might not be the answer that you are looking for. But I am a Psychologist and I deal mentor children. So thought will give my 2 cents of wisdom here. You haven't mentioned why your son had to switch boards when he was doing good. And when you shift boards, you dont change the academic curriculum but also the child's developmental overbeing. He has to let go off the comfort zone and try getting used to the new environment. And may be he couldn't and he failed. This cannot be attributed to his lack of interest in education or lack of subject knowledge. He couldn't adopt. Before you make any swift decisions and changes to his educational pattern, please have a conversation with him and find out what his aspirations are. Often, children can surprise us with their indepth knowledge and aims. May be accordingly you can make plans.

On the other hand, talking about your question, commerce is not a bad stream at all. CBSE has released a list of 113 courses that students can pursue after each stream. You can check that list at their official website. CA, CS, B.Com.LLB, BBM, BMS are few options that your son can pursue after his 12th. If he is good at Maths, he can join Acturial Sciences. And if he thinks this is too much of a burden for him, then there are other options like learning Foreign Languages. This is fun and also a promising career. One can join as a Translator even in Legislative Assembly eventually with enough exposure and guidance. There is no dearth of opportunities.

Thank you maam. My son was not an A grader but is practically good. He was having a problem with his old school because his work was always incomplete, impulsive, anxiety and was facing problems as teachers would always pull him. So we changed his school. He was fine in new school but was struggling academically specially in class 11 science. So now that he failed, he is not ready to go to this school and wants to join back his old school which is ISC. I am not quite sure if hewill be able to cope academically. He is also recently been detected of ADHD. He is a very smart boy and has knowlege which is above his age but not academically. Pls guide

What he needs first is counselling to be treated for ADHD. He is too young for medications. He should be reeled out of this first. Let him choose a hobby or any recreational sport to keep him going and busy. And regarding the Academic part, if he wants to go back to old school, you will have to talk to the Administration about past experience of constantly being picked up on.
