Hello, when a object is motion is viewed its size appears to be smaller. This is known as Lorentz contraction. This is based on the the theory of relativity and is only observed when the object is in motion since the length difference will be negligible if the object is in standard position. The apparent length is the resultant length that is as viewed by the observer. It is calculated by dividing the original length by Lorentz factor.
