One of the most decorated positions in this country is that of an IAS officer. This is a government post and it gets all the priveledges that a government post provides, such as pension, accommodation and authority.
To become an IAS officer, one has to clear the UPSC exam. UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission. This exam is attempted by a majority of students across the country every year.
There is no specific qualification that is needed to apply for this exam.
One major criterion is that the individual applying has to be between 21 to 32 years of age.
Another requirement is that the individual should hold a bachelors qualification in any field. There is no limit as to what should be the area of the degree.
Although, it would be helpful if you have a degree in any of the social sciences subject as that would help you prepare for the exam as well. A degree including subjects such as Political Science, History and Sociology can benefit you. Such subjects have vast knowledge and are required for clearing the exam.
The exam is a difficult exam to crack and is the first step towards being an IAS officer. Many students join coaching centers to prepare for the exam as there is very tough competition. Firstly there is a prelims exam. The ones who have cleared the prelims are qualified to give the mains exam. One has to clear both the exams. (the applications for prelims 2019 have opened, a fee of Rs 100 is needed to submit the form and the last date to apply is March 18, 2019)
After the written exam, there is a physical test and one needs to have a healthy functioning body with a healthy Body Mass Index to clear the training. Thus there is a need to prepare for the physical exam as well.
