Well I don't know from where you get this information that most of the parents wants there children to join Private colleges, However there is majority of parents who wants their children to get admission in government colleges, there are certain reason behind these

1- Good Environment and huge campus area

2- Tons of opportunity for developing their career.

3- High placements record.

4- Less academic fees comparing to Private colleges.

However there are pros and cons of both types of colleges, as in private colleges you do get huge campus area and environment but do have lack of restriction, private colleges provides better facilities as compare to Govt colleges which might be a reason to prefer Private colleges over Govt Colleges, and as a Parent they want their children to get good facilities that's why they might choose Private Colleges.

But now a days, the parents totally wants their children to decide the college in which they only wants to pursue, So there is no role of parents to choose colleges on behalf of their children.
