The full form of SPS is the State Police Services. There are police forces who work under the supervision of the State government and union territories. Every state government does recruitment of SPS through the process of the State Public Service Commission. Staff in state police are selected by the conduct of exams all over India. Some candidates are chosen by their qualifications also. The selection of SPS is also conducted in the same pattern as that of IPS. According to the population of the state, the state governments do recruit as per their requirement in specific fields.
The only difference between SPS and IPS examinations is that SPS is conducted at the state level and IPS is selected on exams done on all India Civil Services Examination also called Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Even Union Tretirories SPS are also chosen through UPSC examinations. Selection is based on the choice and merit of the candidate.
After the selection of candidates, they undergo a training session. Once the training session completes, they are posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) or Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
