SUMAN stands for the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan scheme. It is an effort by the Central Government to achieve the Zero Preventable Maternal, and Newborn Death goal, i.e., the Central Government is dedicated to reducing maternal and infant mortality through the Suman scheme. On October 10, 2019, in New Delhi, the scheme was launched during the 13th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare. Every woman and a newborn who visits a public health institution is intended to get affordable, respectful, and high-quality medical care. This initiative's primary focus is on ensuring the delivery of maternal and newborn healthcare services. It includes expanding access to free, high-quality services, tolerating no service refusal, ensuring the management of complications, and respecting women's autonomy, dignity, feelings, and preferences.
