What is the full form of TNEA?

The full form of TNEA is the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission. Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu provides admission through TNEA every year for admission to B.Tech courses. Candidates will get admission in various government, government-aided, and private engineering institutes throughout the state. Allotment into these TNEA participating institutes will be done on the basis of marks secured by candidates in class 10+2 examination.

TNEA Highlights

  • TNEA full form is the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission. It is conducted for 440 participating institutes across the state.
  • TNEA is conducted every year on the state level.
  • DoTE provides admission to 539 TNEA participating institutions.
  • Admissions through TNEA are provided on the basis of class 12th marks.

TNEA 2023:

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission commonly known as TNEA counselling every year for admissions to various engineering colleges. Candidates willing to take admission through TNEA will be required to register themselves on the official website tneaonline.org.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria:

Before filling the application form candidates are required to check the TNEA 2023 eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria of TNEA consist of minimum education qualification of the candidate, minimum age, marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Candidates are advised to ensure their eligibility criteria so that their candidature is not cancelled.

General Eligibility

  • Candidates who have completed classes 8, 9, 10 11 and 12 from Tamil Nadu need not to submit any nativity proof.


  • Candidates who have completed classes 8, 9, 10 11 and 12 from states other than Tamil Nadu need to submit a nativity certificate.


  • Children or wards of Central Government Employees serving continually in Tamil Nadu for the last 5 years are required to submit parents’ certificates of employment.


  • Proof of parents’ employment must be submitted by candidates if their parents are employed under All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers.


  • Identification certificate from headquarters must be submitted by any Srilankan Tamil Refugee applicant.


Age Limit

  • There is no age limit. However, marine engineering applicants must not be older than 25 years.

Qualification Eligibility

  • Applicants must have completed class 12/HSC from any recognized board.


  • The obligatory subjects for TNEA 2023 are Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.


  • The candidates at least have scored 45 % (General), 40% (Backward class including backward class Muslims, MBC & DNC, and SC/SCA/ST).


  • Marine engineering applicants must have cleared class 12 with at least 60% marks in PCM and 50% in English.

Candidates who wish to apply for admission are required to have passed their HSC (Academic) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together as given in the table below:
