TOPS is the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. This scheme provides assistance to India's Top athletes. This helps the athlete in their preparation so that they can ace in their particular fields. 104 TOPS core group athletes are supported by this scheme across the 13 sports and 269 TOPS development group athletes across 12 sport disciplines. This scheme was initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in September 2014. This scheme includes all Olympic and Paralympic games. They also include foreign training, international competition and coaching camp. They also provide a monthly stipend of Rs 50,000 to each athlete.
To achieve the medals in the Olympics of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, MYAS established the TOPS scheme. The TOPS elite athletes identification committee selected the appropriate athletes who could achieve the goal. Under the chairmanship of Shri. Anurag Thakur, the first committee was constituted and they are composed of Pulella Gopichand, Rahul Dravid, Abhinav Bindra, and Manisha Malhotra. High-Priority sports were Archery, Badminton, Boxing Hockey, Shooting and Wrestling.

PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik won silver and bronze in Badminton and Wrestling respectively at the 2016 Rio Olympics. 2 gold, 1 bronze and 1 silver were also achieved by the athletes in the Paralympic games in 2016.
Athletes are selected by the national sports federation and by identifying their talents.
The funding takes place through the Khelo India Scheme.
