Course Overview

Design is used to translate the ideas of an object to fulfill a functional need. The Understanding Design programme is an online course where you will be given a broad introduction to design. You will learn about how valuable and relevant design is in this society. The course will also explore the impact of design on the environment, industries, and society.

The Understanding Design certification course is an online programme where you will gain access to case studies, assignments, and video lectures to understand the course material. There will be an optional exam at the end of the course for participants. You can take this exam and gain a verifiable e-certificate as proof of successful completion of the programme.

Understanding Design online course is an undergraduate programme in design engineering. The faculty of IIT Bombay has designed the curriculum for this programme. Professor Nita Sabnani, IIT Bombay, is the primary instructor for this four-week online training. The programme also offers a list of books and references if you are interested in additional studying.

Eligibility Criteria

Furthermore, to get a certificate, you need to fulfill each of the below-given criteria.

You need to submit all the assignments as they carry 25% of your final score. The best three of four assignments will be considered to calculate the marks. You need to score at least 10/25 for this criterion.

Next, you need to appear for an offline proctored exam and score a minimum of 30/75. The exam contributes the remaining 75% of your final score. The final score will be the sum of your assignment score and exam score. It needs to be 40/100 or higher for qualification fulfillment.

Understanding Design training is an introductory course in design. That is why it would be suitable for students studying design, engineering and/or management.

Admission Details

To enrol in the Understanding Design certification programme, follow these stepwise guidelines.

Go to the Swayam website at https://swayam.gov.in/ and sign in using your details. If you do not have an account, create an account after verifying your email address.
Go to the search catalogue and search for ‘Understanding Design’.
If the course is available for enrolment, click on join. Once you have done this, you have enrolled on the course.

Application Details

The Understanding Design programme does not have an official application form for registration. All you need to do is create an account on Swayam. You can create an account by providing an email address along with choosing a username and password. Once you verify the email, your account will be created. You can also use your Microsoft, Google or Facebook account to sign in.

Evaluation process

Understanding Design training has an exam at the end of the course. This examination is only if you want to qualify for a certificate. The exam will be offline and proctored. There are multiple exam centres available for you to give the exam. There will be an online application form to be filled and an exam fee if your wish to register. You will receive all the details related to the examination, such as the address of the exam centre, the exam date and timing, etc., after your register.
