IIT Guwahati is conducting the India International Science Festival 2024 on November 30, 2024.
Environment and infrastructure are one of the strongest points of IIT Guwahati. Greenery is available with scenic beauty of mountains. Food available in messes are of good quality and various facilities are available including that for health. There are various labs available including CS labs, Chemistry labs, Physics, Mechanical workshops, Electronics labs, etc. There are separate hostel libraries and also a central library. There is also a gym available in every hostel and a central gym too.
Can be a bit hectic in first semester but it only goes better from then onwards. Academics will keep you busy in first semester which actually has its own benefits as you would always have the chance to grow. Professors are helpful, TAs are available for doubt clearing and friends can help you too.
Being an IIT, placements are excellent. One gets internship opportunities in first year too as a part of various events that go on in the college. Around 90% students get placements every year. CSE offers highest placements and even during recession period where placements were low in 2023, highest international placement offer here was 2.05 crores, and highest domestic stood at 1.20 cr.
Excellent environment with helpful staffs and good quality food. IIT Guwahati provides great exposure to various fields of life. You also get free counselling services here along with various sports activities.
Vibrant, green and aesthetic.
IIT Guwahati, one of the best college in India. The IIT's are the most premier institutes in India. The IIT Guwahati's campus is well equipped with wifi facilities and hostel facilities are great. The hostel food is nice. The laboratories here are of the best quality with the equipment. The lecture halls are equipped with ACs and proper sound systems.
I am currently enrolled in Biosciences and Bioengineering branch of B.Tech. because this field has a good future and scope. Curriculum is not updated but it is one of the best as this makes us job ready. The quality of teaching is very awesome.
The quality of placements in IIT guwahati is of superb quality. The average placement is of Rs 18 lakhs per annum and the highest placement is of Rs 2.4 crores per annum. The college helps in the placement process very much as it provides like a bridge between companies and students.
The campus of IITG is outstanding. It is like a heaven and it includes greenery along with lakes. The infrastructure of IITG is excellent and it includes all the laboratory facilities.Sports facilities of the college is awesome.
The academic pressure of IITG is somewhat high but we can manage the pressure with time. The quality of teaching in IITG is good and very helpful.Currently , I am in the first year of the Mtech od CSE department.Professors of this department are very helpful.
The placement of IITG is good .It is one of the greatest IIT of India. The overall placements of all the programme is 78 percent.Top companies from both domestic and international offers a huge amount of package to the students of IITG.
IITG is one of the most beautiful iits of India. It comprises of greenery and clean campus. Classrooms are well advanced and libraries also includes all types of books .Sports facilities of IITG is outstanding . Hostels are well maintained and hygenic.
I have completed my Mtech in Power Engineering. It is one of the best moment of my life. There was academic pressure but the professors are helpful in solving any doubts. The curriculum were updated and includes all the developments.
The placements of IITG is good . The percentage of students placed is 78% for all the programs. But the percentage of mtech students placed was 72% due to the COVID 19 it was decreased. It was a nice experience for me.
It's considered as one of the best iit in India. It's infrastructure is unmatchable with any other iits. All the classroom has smart board as well as blackboard. Whole iit campus is enable with wifi. class rooms are very comfortable and classes are very interactive
All the teachers are amazing. The curriculum are little bit old because of it is government institutions but instead of that it is good. Master in mathematics and competing is considered is one of the best course here.
Approximately All the students were placed during placement cell..there are so many company visit for placement. Placement is totally depends upon student takent and interest. If he has good knowledge then he will definitely get the placement.
College infrastructure is really good it has amazing lakes in the campuses as well as library is the best and most peaceful place for studies besides this there is a IIT Guwahati view point which looks amazing and classes are really comforting.
Professors are really helpful and batch size which small is the best part as because of this teacher student ratio is maintained and they do make us job ready as number of seminars and webinars are there to attend which are really helpful.
Placements are best here as everything comes with a experience so here as well they gives us lot of opportunities to improve our CV and help us in acing the interview last year the average package was really good and we are hoping this year the package would be some where near 14 lpa avg.
It has all the facilities those should be available in a hostel but some of them are not in good condition like of new IITs. In classes and lecture halls etc. all are well Air conditioned and has one projector with screen and all are in good condition. Yeah, hygiene is more important thing in iit Guwahati and taken care of it.
I am studying ECE here, I had interest of it cause of its scope upcoming in future. As usual, professors of colleges don't teach good, also they don't have much time to elaborate on topics in just one hour of lecture. So, mostly student has to study on their own using online platforms like youtube and all. I am in first year, So I can't comment on curriculum as we are not taught yet the core curriculum.
It's quite good compared to other engineering colleges. Approx, 90 to 95 percentage of people get placed in my branch. and it is more and less same for others also. Highest sallary was 2.4Cr lifted by CSE dept. student. I am first year student and not sitted in any placement yet.
I pay around 1.8 lakh per year, including mess and hostel charges. It's quite high for a middle class family. I think my money is being worth it as I came here to learn not only engineering but so many things and am learning.
It has one of the beautiful campus among engineering colleges of India. It has a lot of greenery and surrounded by mountains. It is little far away from city. But I liked it as it is also pollution free from city.
Overall it is very good college as it is an IIT and noone get admission here directly without giving JEE. That's make this campus beautiful. A little bit rigid on it's academic and attendance policy. But it's good for placements and that is also one of a reason for it's good placement statistics.
I am sharing my own experience in IIT GUWAHATI after spending 1yr. Infrastructure of IIT GUWAHATI is top noch as being top IIT. All classrooms and laboratories are air conditioned. All laboratories are well maintained with modern facilities and essentials.
Academic of IIT GUWAHATI is better and profs are also good and helpful except few and it also depends on department. like ,CSE, EEE, Mech, civil and MnC are hectic dept. there is difficult to score and there is need to study more as compare to other branches.
Placement of IITG is out standing. not every body get internship but almost 70-80% student got from circuital CSE and MnC. placement vary with branches as other top IIT. Almost 85% placement rate is here for B.tech.
It is absolutely value for money. You will get every thing what you expected from tier-1 collage. campus is full of natural beauty and you will not get fill bore because there are many clubs where you can spent your free time.
Campus life is good every facilities you will got as expected, swimming pool, sports, library, canteen, market complex etc. are available for the all round development. you can also spent your romantic life.
Every thing is okey here. There is biggest cultural fest of IIT Guwahati in whole North East. It attracts people from whole country. many celebrity and bollywood singers have been performed here i.e. Late Lata mangeskar, jubin nautial, Mika singh etc.
Good level of hostels and rooms all hostels have their independent mess and also LAN connections are provided in every room each hostels have their sports room, music room , stationery, library etc All the classrooms are well equipped and acs are also there A Huge central library is also provided
Curriculum is just like other engineering colleges not much difference but laboratory experience is given to the first year student under guidance for all the fields and professors are also fine not mu h aggressive
Many big companies come knocking the door and the dream companies for every SDE field students are Aldo their like microsoft ,google, flipkart, Walmart also there for placement Last year placement statistics reveal that 97percent of the students got placed.
Fees is 260000 per year for income above 5 lakhs per annum and somewhere value for money experience is there
Despite of being in north-east (making high altitude buildings here is quite risky here), IIT GUWAHATI has excellent infrastructure. it has all necessary infra with 5 core department sections(containing 12 different departments), a research building, an auditorium(1500 capacity), an fully wifi library, computer centre, a central gym,17 hostels all equipped with their own mess, gym, library, games room,. almost every place has wifi.classrooms are digital with projector screens.food is quite good.
Academics are ok. I'm in EEE department, which has bit tough academics. I'm in EEE as i was interested in circuit analysis during my JEE time. The professors are good and if you take interest in any subject they will be more helpful. The curriculum of IITG EEE department keeps updating in 3-4 years by removing some part of study and adding some new research topics. The newly added topics are being used very fast in the world. The placements are good from core so study @ IITG makes you job ready.
The placement quality is the most famous thing of this college. Almost every branch has good placement figures with CSE top in the table with almost 100% registered students were placed. the overall data is 74%. In EEE it was around 96%. The highest was of 2.4 Cr. from CSE department. The average salary was 41 LPA for CSE and 28 LPA for overall college. This college has a very active placement cell with students helping during placements and college is also very helpful.
Cost depends on your family income below 1LPA total cost will be 60,000/-. between 1LPA and 5LPA cost will be around 1,30,000/-.and income above 5LPA cost will be 2,30,000/-.Also you will be offered loans without giving any security if you want to take it. I am pretty sure about my money that it's worth as living cost and food cost is included in it and for a whole year, this cost is nothing. You will be enjoying a good part of your life with nature so money will not be an issue.
giving a rank may be complex but the IITG campus is one one of the most beautiful campuses in India. Campus is full with beauty of nature with 3 lakes inside one view point at the top of one of the 3 hills. Mosquitoes are a problem.Students can engage themselves in sports, cultural, dance, personality developments, music, singing etc. activities. All campus junta loves the beauty of this campus. the Brahmaputra river flows by side of campus. Location is good and can handle any emergency.
I entered this campus with lot of expectations and luckily it is fulfilling most of them. It is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. having a rainy season of 5 months, this place will never be too hot or cold. You may feel a high humidity during rainy season. But you will never be bored of roaming around the campus. Academics are not that easy but not very hard too. Do participate in various clubs. Enjoy the cultural and tech festivals as they are most beautiful things of your college life.
There isn't a formal internal upgrade process at IIT Guwahati after all COAP rounds for changing branches.
COAP (Committee on Applied Sciences Programs) is a centralized allotment system ensuring transparency and fairness. Once you have accepted and frozen your seat, it's unlikely to be reopened for internal upgradation.
IIT Guwahati has a specific number of seats allocated for each program. Upgrading you to Geotechnical Engineering might take away a seat from someone who might have preferred it during COAP.
Contact the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Guwahati. Explain your situation and inquire if there's any exceptional circumstance where an internal transfer might be possible (highly unlikely but worth a try).
While you can't switch branches now, keep these options in mind for the future After completing your B.Tech in Water Resources Engineering, you can pursue an M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering at IIT Guwahati or other institutes. This would allow you to specialize in Geotechnical Engineering.

I hope it helps!
Hello Aspirant,
Considering you are having obc-ncl category then I would suggest that you do have chances to get into IIT Guwahati. However there are certain factors such as number of candidates appearing in the examination, previous year cutoffs and difficulty level of the paper.
For IIT Bombay the chances are slim and a bit dicy so I would suggest you to look for other colleges too.
To get more information about the cut offs then you can check out the link given below -
