The Defects in Materials certification course is a 12-week duration programme. The certification course aims to provide a brief introduction to the various types of defects and how their interaction can used to control the properties. The certification course covers a comprehensive curriculum that covers a brief introduction to perfect crystals, defect classification in crystalline systems, and defect interaction.
Students will learn the role of defects in controlling, and introduction to techniques for characterization of defects. The Defects in Materials certification by NPTEL equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge of the industry. They will also gain in-depth knowledge of the role of dislocations in static and dynamic strain ageing, the strength of alloys, deformation of poly-crystals and fracture.
