Course Overview

Safety will become all the more critical as chemical process technology becomes more complex. The Chemical Process Safety course covers the economic and legislative aspects of mitigating problems in a chemical process.  The principal aim of this course is to provide the candidates with a brief insight into the various aspects of chemical process safety. 

The 12 weeks long course in Chemical Process Safety by Swayam covers topics such as Fire and Explosion, Risk Assessment, Reliability Engineering, QRA and LOPA, etc. The course will be taught by Prof. Shishir Sinha, who is a professor and HOD in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the Chemical Process Safety Course by Swayam must possess knowledge of scientific disciplines like Thermodynamics, Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering, etc. 

The candidates who wish to get certified must appear for a proctored exam at the end of the course. Throughout the course, candidates will be given 12 assignments. To create the final score, 25 percent of the average score of their eight best assignments along with 75 percent of their score in the proctored exam will be considered.

Evaluation process

Passing the Chemical Process Safety certification exam is mandatory for those who wish to acquire the certification. Note that the average assignment score of a candidate should be 10/25 or more, and the exam score should be 30/75 or more. Even if the candidate’s total score is 40/100, they will not qualify for certification if any one of these conditions is not met.
