Course Overview

Swayam’s Optical Sensors online course is an elective, four-week curriculum dealing with optical biosensors and their introductory working fundamentals. Developed in collaboration with IIT Roorkee, this program is set at PG/UG-level and belongs to the ‘Photonics’ and ‘‘Physics’  categories. The entire training features weekly modules, evaluations, optional exams, and term-end notes for research.

The Optical Sensors certification syllabus commences with the elementary components, performance parameters, characteristics, etc. It then proceeds with optical phenomena, sensing applications, tissues’ optical properties, biomaterials’ optics, and more. Through an extensive curriculum, the course familiarises candidates with the mesmerizing sphere of optics principles-based sensors. In doing so, it also helps them gain industry-relevant skills to pursue career growth in this domain.

While a basic optics experience is enough to join this training, students must complete all in-course assessments and register for Swayam’s offline test (proctored) to acquire the Optical Sensors certificate. This will further help them display their skills and seek lucrative job opportunities in Photonic Sys and related organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

Introductory knowledge of optics (interference, geometrical optics, polarization, diffraction, etc.) is sufficient for obtaining admission in the Optical Sensors program by Swayam.

Certificate Qualifying Details

Moreover, Swayam has specific eligibility criteria for students to clear to acquire the Optical Sensors certificate. In this, they must submit all the in-course assessments and appear for the offline proctored test.

25% of the highest-scoring three assignments (out of the total four) and 75% of the candidate’s score upon 100 in the proctored exam will be evaluated. The sum of these two will result in his/her final course score.

Minimum marks of 30/75 on the test and 10/25 on the average assessment score are compulsory for acquiring the Optical Sensors certificate. Students cannot get the certification without securing these scores even after obtaining 40/100 or more.

What you will learn

Knowledge of physics

Completing the Optical Sensors certification syllabus will help candidates understand and display their expertise in these areas:

  • Optical biosensors, their fundamental components, performance parameters, fabrication techniques, and characteristics
  • Introductory optical characteristics/phenomena, their sensing applications
  • Tissues and their optical properties
  • Optics in biomaterials
  • Optical biosensing
  • Future research directions and Terahertz sensing applications

Who it is for

Students currently pursuing or have completed their PG/UG degree in Nanotechnology, Electrical engineeringPhysics, Photonics, Biosciences, and Electrooptic engineering, are ideal for the Optical Sensors certification course.
