Course Overview

The objective of Towards an Ethical Digital Society programme is to help you ask relevant ethical questions related to the design and implementation of technologies. Towards an Ethical Digital Society: From Theory to Practice certification has been designed and developed by IIIT Bangalore in association with NPTEL. The course material, lectures, and weekly assignments are available on Swayam's online learning platform.

The Towards an Ethical Digital Society course length is four weeks and comprises a well-researched curriculum. You will learn to look at technology as a complex sociotechnical collection and point out the different ethical considerations.

Eligibility Criteria

If you have a bachelor’s degree, regardless of the discipline, you are qualified to join Towards an Ethical Digital Society course by Swayam.

Certificate Qualifying Details

Moreover, to qualify for the certificate, you need to complete and submit four weekly assignments. The best three assignments will be taken to calculate the assignment score. This assignment score constitutes 25% of your final score. You must achieve a minimum of 10/25 in assignments to qualify for the certificate. 

You also have to appear for an offline exam held at the end of the course. This exam constitutes 75% of your final score. You must get a minimum of 30/75 in the exam to qualify for the certificate. 

Your final score has to be a minimum of 40/100 to qualify for the certificate. However, if you score the minimum required marks in the assignments and exam, you will not receive the certificate even if you surpass the minimum final exam score.

Evaluation process

Towards an Ethical Digital Society training has an optional proctored exam that you can appear for if you want to qualify for a certificate. There is an online registration form that you need to fill up for the exam.

There are two slots available for the exam. A morning session between 9 am to 12 pm & an afternoon session from 2 pm to 5 pm. It will be offline and conducted across multiple exam centres. All the details related to the exam, such as the date and time, the address of the exam centre, etc., will be provided in advance.
