Course Overview

The Foundations of Development Policy online course is a part of MIT’s MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Development Policy (DEDP). And the DEPD MicroMasters is part of the Workforce Recovery Acceleration program. It is an eleven-week course, and candidates can complete it comfortably if they study 12-14 hours per week.

The Foundations of Development Policy program studies the different aspects of human development, including health, education, gender, family, risk, land relations, formal and informal norms, institutions, and public policies. It attempts to answer questions like - What factors affect the decisions that low-income households in developing countries make? What are the constraints within which low-income families have to make do?

The Foundations of Development Policy training also covers the scope for intervening policies implemented by governments, international organizations, and NGOs. You will learn which policies have been implemented, and how successful they have been, if at all. The training also includes weekly assignments wherein you will work with real data.
