Course Overview

Design Thinking Capstone online course is an intermediate course in Business and Management. It is six weeks long, shareable, and a part of the MicroMasters Design Thinking series available on the edX website. This course will provide candidates with a cumulative experience of all the aspects of end-to-end design thinking processes.

The Rochester Institute of Technology developed the Design Thinking Capstone program. It is an instructor-led course taught by Dean Emerita Lorraine Justice, Professor of Design at RIT. This course emphasizes practical problem-solving methods, allowing students to better understand the course material. Towards the end of the program, candidates will demonstrate their understanding by submitting a final project and documentation that support their findings. 

Design Thinking Capstone by edX requires a weekly effort of eight to twelve hours. Post-training completion and fee payment, a verified and shareable certificate is obtainable. The certification includes the Rochester Institute of Technology logo and is signed by the instructor.

Eligibility Criteria

The prerequisites for the Design Thinking Capstone program are successful completion of the previous MicroMasters Design Thinking courses namely: Design Thinking Fundamentals (THINK501x), Design Thinking: Empathising to Understand the Problem (THINK502x), Design Thinking: Ideation, Iteration, and Communication (THINK503x), Design Thinking: Prototyping and User Testing (THINK504x). The learner must obtain the certificate for each of these courses before applying to the Design Thinking Capstone certification course.

Admission Details

For admission in the Design Thinking Capstone course by edX, follow these steps.

Step 1: Visit the course page at https://www.edx.org/course/design-thinking-capstone-3. 

Step 2: At the top of the page, select ‘Enroll’.

Step 3: Create a profile on edX using your email address. If you already have a registered account, you can skip this step and log in to your account directly.

Step 4: Select if a certificate is required. If yes, you will be redirected to a payment page. Upon receipt of payment, you can join the course. In case you do not want a certificate, you can join the program directly after Step 2. 

Application Details

Registration on the edX website is equivalent to an application form for the Design Thinking Capstone online course. Registration can be done either using an email address or a Facebook, Apple, Google, or Microsoft account.

Evaluation process

Candidates need to complete a final project at the end of the course, document their findings, and submit them to complete the course.
