Course Overview

Autism, which is a lifelong developmental disability, was first identified over 70 years ago.  This disease affects the way an individual relates to others and communicates with them. Autism is a spectrum condition, that is, everyone on the spectrum experiences certain difficulties that are common to all, but their condition impacts each of them in a different way. Close to 7 lakh people in the UK are on the autism spectrum, this is nearly 1 in every 100 people. Currently, there are no brain scans or blood tests that can detect autism in a person. Therefore, the ‘Understanding Autism’ course is an emerging subject in the field of psychology and mental health.

‘Understanding Autism’ certification course has been certified by the CPD Certification Service. This means that it could be utilized to give proof of a person’s continuing professional development in psychology.

The two instructors for this course are Dr. Jill Bradshaw and Fiona Gullon-Scott. Dr. Jill Bradshaw, working in this field for 25 years, is a Speech/Language Therapist. Fiona Gullon-Scott is a Chartered Psychologist. She has specialized in autism spectrum conditions for more than 22 years.
