  • Completion of Poultry Health certification by The University of Nottingham and British Hen Welfare Trust through the FutureLearn platform. Candidates must complete 90% of the syllabus steps and all examinations to be eligible for the certificate.

What you will learn

After completing this Poultry Health certification syllabus, participants will describe the lifecycle of poultry, including the differences between commercial and non-commercial birds, as well as the critical needs of poultry in terms of housing, biosecurity, nutrition, and predator protection. You will evaluate a bird's overall health and determine the primary signs of illness. You will discuss the major infectious disease categories affecting poultry, including pathogens causing respiratory, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and dermatological infections, as well as the major non-infectious disease categories influencing poultry, such as examples of skeletal, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and dietary/nutritional disorders. 

You will also be able to discuss the significance of vaccination in disease prevention and describe the key characteristics of avian immunity and how it differs from that of mammals. Additionally, you will examine the role of antimicrobial drugs in disease treatment, as well as the consequences of antimicrobial resistance.
