What is the full form of UR EWS?

The full forms of EWS and UR are Economically Weaker Sections and Unreserved Categories, respectively. The UR category is reserved for people who do not belong to any backward caste and are therefore ineligible for any reservation quota. On the other hand, the EWS category is for individuals who are below the threshold of extreme poverty (BPL) and require government assistance. It refers to individuals who reside in extremely poor circumstances for reasons other than their own. Both of these categories are not covered by the SC, ST, or OBC categories.

What is UR?

UR is an abbreviation for the Unreserved category, which refers to a general class of people. The UR category includes citizens who do not fall under the SC, ST, or OBC quotas. As a result, this is an open category that relates to all Indian citizens.

What is EWS?

The full form of EWS is the Economically Weaker Section. The only difference between EWS and the General category is that candidates or individuals who belong to the EWS category are reserved. EWS candidates or students are given a 10% preference in government bodies, exams, and jobs. The only requirement is that they possess an EWS certificate.

Reservations for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the UR Category

  • In response to persistent demands from economically backward sections of the unreserved category, the Indian government established a special 10% financial quota for them predicated on their property and income ownership.

  • The Narsimha Rao government was the first to implement a reservation policy for economically backward sections of the unreserved category. It made available a 10% qualm for those considered poor in society's unreserved sections. However, the authority quickly rescinded it based on the Supreme Court's 1992 decision. Since then, reservations have come a long way.

Eligibility to claim quotas under the EWS category

According to the government's policy, the economically backward sections (EWS) of the general category will receive a 10% reservation quota. Families in this category should not earn more than INR 8 lakh per year. These earnings include earnings from all possible sources of business, profession, agriculture, and your salary from work. Aside from that, the family must not own more than 5 acres of agricultural land in order to be eligible for reservation under the Economically Backward Sections (EWS) quota.

Problems faced by UR category( Unreserved)

• Candidates must score higher than other students in their category.

• For example, in a government exam, the cut-off for a reserved candidate is 65%, whereas the cut-off for an unreserved or UR candidate is 75%.

• Do not benefit from government programs.
