• When Sir Julian Huxley wrote his article in the British newspaper ‘The Observer’, Victor Stolan was the first to suggest the World Wildlife Fund to him.

• Victor Stolan, then, met with Edward Max Nicholson, who named the organisation with the logo of Sir Peter Scott's original panda.

• The World Wildlife Fund was eventually created on April 29, 1961, in Morges, Switzerland, at the headquarters of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

• The creation of the WWF resulted in the signing of the "Morges Manifesto."

• In 1986, the World Wildlife Fund celebrated its 25th anniversary and changed its name to World Wildlife Fund for Nature.

The World Wildlife Fund is symbolised by Panda, inspired by a Chi named panda that was brought from Beijing Zoo to London Zoo in 1958. It was the western country's first endangered Panda at the time. The WWF also desired particular creatures that would stand out in black-and-white graphic printing. Sir Peter Scott created the panda logo from Gerald Watterson's drawing. The logo was updated in 1978 and again in 1986. In the year 2000, the typeface of the WWF's initials also changed.

Recent Activities

• WWF applauded the Kunming-Montreal Agreement's objective of conserving at least 30% of the world's land, rivers, and oceans while protecting Indigenous peoples' and local communities' rights and acknowledging indigenous and traditional territories' contributions to meeting this new target. They also commended the willingness of 196 nations to abolish detrimental environmental subsidies and enhance financial support for conservation activities by 2030, accumulating at least $US200 billion per year.

• The Colombian government and a coalition of other nations announced the 'Freshwater Challenge,' a programme to prioritise the conservation and restoration of inland waterways - the world's rivers, lakes, and freshwater wetlands - with support from WWF and other organisations.

• Following decades of escalating nature loss as a result of human activity, a wide global coalition of sustainable business platforms and environmental NGOs(Non-governmental organization), including WWF, had urged governments to commit to putting the natural world on the path to recovery at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference, 2022.
