Aakanksha Lions School for Mentally Handicapped located at Raipur in Chhattisgarh is a school for disabled children and meant for organized education for such students. This affiliated college was established in 2014, and thus has been operational in the promotion of special education for about 9 years. Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar located at Avanti Vihar occupies only 1.75 acres of land of its own which provides a home-like atmosphere for the students. As of now, there are 38 students enrolled, 12 dedicated professionals provide effective teaching and educational experiences promoting a good student to teacher ratio.
The school has many facilities that make sure that students are well developed in all aspects. An equipped library supplements an already well-furnished teacher’s resource center that is used in the provision of educational resources. The sports facilities help the children develop physical activity and team spirit most essential for the growth of individuals who are specially abled. In practical sciences, well-equipped laboratories are available at the departmental and college level, there is also a dedicated computer lab which provides skill in computers. The institution also has a health center for students whereby there is first aid facilities in order to control disease and illness.
Aakanksha Lions School provides four different specialised classes in totality proving the school’s concern towards various fields of learning difficulty. These full-time programmes are Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Diploma in Education (D.Ed) consisting of three major areas of specialization namely: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Visual Impairment and Cerebral Palsy. The B.Ed program has an intake capacity of thirty students and each D.Ed program shall have intake capacity of 25 Students making a total of 105 students.
Admission in Aakanksha Lions School differs from program to program as explained below: The admission procedure for the B.Ed program include merit proportion, following total marks achieved in qualifying examination and/or entrance test. The particular recruitment procedure may be determined by the state government, Union Territory, and the university with which the college is associated. In the case of the D.Ed programs in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Visual Impairment and Cerebral Palsy though certain admission procedures are not outlined, it is believed that they do follow certain merit based norms particular to the respective specialization.
