The institute occupies the area of 3,160 sq.meters and has two postgraduate programmes in ophthalmology. Aravind Eye Hospitals and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology provides two full time Post graduate courses in ophthalmology. The proposed MS Ophthalmology programme being a three-year course has accreditations for 20 intake seats and Diploma in Ophthalmology being a two-year course which has intakes for 8 seats. Both courses are aimed in training one in as many facets as possible of eye care and surgeries. In all the two programmes, just 28 students are taken indicating that the institute gives a lot of emphasis to quality through enrolment of many few students.
