Arignar Anna Government Arts College, Villupuram (AAGAC) is a self financing Government aided institution which was started in the year of 1968. This college is affiliated to the government and was established in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu; it occupies 21 acres of land. AAGAC is affiliated to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) that further confirm the quality education that the college provides to its students. The college has 60 courses in close to 9 degree programmes and in total serves 6, 888 students. The faculty of AAGAC has 98 members which ensures a good student-faculty ratio. Sex distribution reveals that 55% of the students are male and 45% are females, 89% of the students are undergraduates while 11% are postgraduates.

Arignar Anna Government Arts College interestingly has a number of amenities that are of direct aid to the learning process and the general development of its learners. The college has two different hostels for boys and girls with facilities for approximately 300 students in each. These hostels are under the administration of Backward Class Welfare Department and Schedule Caste Welfare Department Tamil Nadu Government. The institution maintains a well-equipped library that remains open from 9:Daly from Monday to Friday from 00 AM to 5:30 PM providing a useful resource exclusively for students and scholars. Being a sports loving institution the college provides amenities for the indoor and outdoor games such as; carom, chess, Kabaddi, volleyball, shuttle and cricket. The campus has also a gym facility with well maintained machineries for sports and games under the Department of Physical Education.

The college provides a vast array of academic courses which includes sixty Courses at different fields. These include full time and part time in the undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. The undergraduate programmes take three years of study while the postgraduate programmes are two year programmes. Apartments, M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes of AAGAC are also available in many filed of study.
