Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay School of Education, Silchar, is established in 1995 as a constituent college of Assam University. Based in Silchar, Assam, it addresses the developing need for educators in the country. The institution is NCTE-approved, which means quality teacher education. It has faculty strength of 20 experienced educators who teach six very diverse courses across various levels of education. This school offers undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral-level education. Under its umbrella lie the Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay School of Education with various state-of-the art facilities to aid in achieving excellence in its educational activities.

The college has a library that provides knowledge, as well as other sources of education. Different hostels facilities are there for boys and girls students. The whole campus is WiFi enabled with internet connectivity. Laboratories are adequately developed to provide students with practical knowledge in experimental learning. IT Infrastructure is also maintained at par as the institution keeps track of the latest development that is taking place regarding technology in the field of education. Apart from academic activities, a gymnasium and other sports facilities are also there to imbue physical fitness in students. There exists a cafeteria on the campus. It caters to the dietary needs of the college community. It also houses an auditorium for more important events and seminars in a lively academic atmosphere.

The institute offers six full-time courses to the students regarding the different levels of education such as undergraduate, postgraduate, and research and B. Sc B. Ed integrated programs also combining science education and teacher training, a unique offering by itself. The postgraduate programs include both M.Ed and MA Education offered by the school. The institute provides M.Phil and Ph.D programs in Education for research-oriented students. Alongside, the institute also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Planning and Management. At large, 50 seats are approved each for the B.Sc B.Ed Integrated and M.Ed programs, while 25 seats are available each for the MA Education and the PGD in Educational Planning and Management. 

The School of Education at Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay is admitting candidates through its different programs with varying admission processes. The integrated B.Sc B.Ed program is admitted on the basis of merit, considering marks from the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. Its selection is strictly carried out according to the policies of the state government, UT Administration, and university. Likewise, M.Ed is admitted on merit consideration, but marks for the entrance examination and entrance test are taken into consideration. The institute follows the rules that are maintained by the government of the state, central governments, university, and UT Administration for the admission process. Further, the school is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education which assures that its programs meet the national standards for teacher education.
