Baruipur Government Polytechnic, established in 2012, is one of the creative technical institutions in Kolkata. This government owned polytechnic is an affiliated college approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. The institute spreads over a campus of 8.5 acres, providing the ideal atmosphere for technical education. With a total student enrolment of 584 and a faculty strength of 19, individual attention is provided to the students of Baruipur Government Polytechnic. The institute is co-educational and admits both boys and girls for fulfilling their technical dreams.

The polytechnic has a host of amenities to further enrich the learning experience of the students. It serves as an information centre and hence provides immense help for academic and research purposes. The infrastructure for information technology is well maintained in the college, which helps the students to keep themselves updated with recent technologies. There are department-based laboratories that allow students practical experience, very essential for developing practical skills. A cafeteria is on campus that caters to the culinary needs of the students, staff, and faculty. Sports facilities are available for the physically inclined, hence blending a healthy dose of academics with recreation.

Baruipur Government Polytechnic offers three full-time diploma courses, each for three years. The streams offered under the diploma courses are Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and Diploma in Civil Engineering. Each course has an approved intake of 60 students, thus totalling 180 seats. This clearly reflects that these three streams are the core engineering fields that this institute will pursue and pursue with all its might while producing skilled technicians ready for the industry.               

The admission process to Baruipur Government Polytechnic is mainly based on West Bengal Polytechnic Admission, conducted by JEXPO. For the first-year admission process, 100% of the seats are filled while considering the rank of JEXPO. The eligible candidates have to pass the Madhyamik or Higher Secondary examination from any recognized State or Central Board. The institute also gives a lot of emphasis to physical fitness, every candidate shall be medically fit with good health and a sound mind. As far as lateral admission to the second year is concerned, it is done through the Vocational Lateral Entry Test conducted by WBSCT & VE & SD. The eligibility condition for admission in the first year of Diploma Course through lateral entry will be that a candidate must have passed the (10+2) Vocational Examination conducted by WBSCT & VE & SD or completed a 2-year ITI course after Madhyamik of 10+ or an equivalent examination.
