Basic Training Centre, Sivasagar was set up in 1958 at Joysagar, Sivasagar being a standalone institute. This school is a co-educational one and is solely committed to teacher education in which it offers a diploma course in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed.). Located on a small piece of land of 4.68 acres the centre annually enrolls 94 students and is staffed by 6 classroom teachers. First and foremost, being a training centre of futures educators, it shares the mission of nurturing a skilled generation of teachers at the elementaries level and therefore developing the human capital in the region.

The Basic Training Centre possesses several facilities that help to envision its educational functions. It plays a strategic role in extend environmentally educational literature to the students as well as all available literature related to teacher training.
