Affiliated college, Bishop Jerome School of Architecture and Design was founded in the year 2010 and is situated at Kollam, Kerala. This is a co-educational institution built over 12 acres of land and is specifically committed to architectural education. Affiliated by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE New Delhi and the Council of Architecture India, successful completion of the programme is WAR offers the only Bachelor of Architecture degree with only one degree programme. The total student intake at the institute is 899 and total number of faculty members allowed is 17, and thus offers a concentrated learning atmosphere.
To support the learning of its students, the institute has several resources organized to improve the learning process. The campus includes having accommodated different hostels for boys and girls, equipped with amenities and internet services. The college library contains a plethora of books along with different Journals, Online database like EBSCO, Questa, SAGE, DELNET etc. For practical purposes, the college has equipped some necessary lab like language lab, model making lab, environmental lab (climatology), material testing and surveying lab etc. A computer centre that has 60 computer systems connected to the internet provide a platform for IT oriented learning, computer based test, etc. Besides, the campus has sports amenities, food court, indoor stadium with sitting capacity of 1000, Internet facilities and transportation which completes an educational environment.
Bishop Jerome School of Architecture and Design provides architectural education and has a sole and only full time programme named Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch). This is a five year degree programme and the institution has the capacity to admit 30 students in this academic programme to afford the learners the opportunity to learn in small groups. The B.Arch course is therefore aimed at preparing the students with the right knowledge and performance skills in a field of architecture and urban planning.
The entry of learners into Bishop Jerome School of Architecture and Design mainly depends on national examinations. The institute accepts scores from two prominent exams: The two standardized examinations for admission to Bachelor’s degree courses in Engineering, Architecture and Town Planning are the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) respectively. Any of these examinations are compulsorily needed to be cleared by the prospective students in order to gain admittance.
The JEE Main consists of both physics, chemistry and mathematics as part of its assessment while the NATA only focuses on the test taker’s ability to study architecture. The focus of the college is on the identification of skilled architects through its curriculum and, therefore, the training method of the college to prepare students for careers in the field of architecture or design is strategic.
