One of the most famous colleges, Bombay Hospital College of Nursing, Mumbai, located at 12, Marine Lines, in the heart of Mumbai, was established in the year 1952 for nursing education. This affiliated college has been grooming the future of health care for the past seven decades. The Indian Nursing Council-approved college offers various programs in nursing that have been in demand to meet the ever-growing needs for health care professionals with requisite skills. With 192 students and 7 faculty members, this college has a perfect setting for any student to become a nurse.
The facilities are very impressive, right from the college assisting the students in pursuing their education. In addition, there is a well-stocked library that is considered a knowledge hub with sufficient resources in terms of books to help in research and study. The IT infrastructure of the college helps students remain connected and updated with digital learning tools. Departmental laboratories are available to provide practical training, which is certainly essential for learning in nursing. An auditorium on the campus provides a platform for events and seminars that could enhance the academic ambience.
Sports facilities and a health centre with first-aid services are also available for health and wellness. These nutritional requirements are catered to by the cafeteria on campus. More importantly, hostel facilities for both boys and girls are also provided by the college to ensure a comfortable living experience for students who come from far-off places.
Academics: Bombay Hospital College of Nursing offers four full-time courses at two different degree levels. At the undergraduate category, the institution offers just one course: the four-year BSc Nursing with an intake of 50 students. This institution offers three specialist M.Sc Nursing courses at the postgraduate level: Medical Surgical Nursing with 8 seats, Paediatric Nursing with 6 seats, and Community Health Nursing with 6 seats. Over these two-year courses, the students of each are oriented toward acquiring expertise in specialised areas within nursing practice. With a total intake of 70 students permitted per year across all approved courses, this proves its commitment toward ensuring quality education through control of class sizes.
The Bombay Hospital College of Nursing has evolved the admission process to select the most promising candidates for its nursing programs. Following the directives given by the Government of Maharashtra, a fair and uniform admission policy is followed for the B.Sc Nursing course. On the other hand, no mention has been made in their website regarding admission to the postgraduate courses. Assuming that they have followed the course of the government, those models can be generally followed for admissions as well. Further, being an affiliated institution of one of the most prestigious hospitals, Bombay Hospital adds value to the programs in nursing. Therefore, additional opportunities for practical training in a world-class healthcare setting are afforded to the students.
