It is an affiliated institution which was incorporated in the year 2007 as Cape Polytechnic College situated at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The college with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) provides number of diploma courses in various branches of engineering. The college is situated in a large 15.06 acre campus and offers total strength of students enrolled at 618 and faculty strength of 60. New IET offers six diploma courses in mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, computer science and electronics engineering. Being a technical college the primary purpose of the college is to ensure students enrolment, retention, successful completion and placement for practice in the complex world of engineering.

Cape Polytechnic College has excellent infrastructure facilities to facilitate the teaching learning process of its students. Some of the important laboratories available are Computer science lab, thermal power lab, Electronics /Electrical / Instrumentation, Chemistry /civil, automobile /Mechanical /Production, as well as Physics laboratory. It extends a roomy twenty five by thirty six square feet, library that hosts a significant number of publications across twelve disciplines and offers access to the internet for research. It is Worried about the physical needs of students the college has provided facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports. For the transportation of day scholars the institution owns 11 buses plying for different areas of Kanyakumari and Tirunelvei districts. Further, boys and girls hostels with proper, hygienic facility and necessary amenities provide a proper living standard and healthy food.

It has six diploma full time programmes in engineering as follows: These course includes Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The total approved intake for all the courses is 360 students in one year. The duration that each diploma programme takes is three years, which enables the students build a good attributes of Engineering field.

Degrees Wise Admission Process

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: Total 120 seats which focuses on a strong foundation in principles and practices of mechanical engineering. Admission is made on the 10th Standard Examination results with consideration to those in the subjects Mathematics and Science.

Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering: A total of 60 students are admitted to this course where students shall be exposed to the concepts of electrical and electronic engineering. Entry preference goes to those having a strong background in both Physics and Mathematics.

Diploma in Computer Engineering: This program can house 60 students in its classrooms and focuses on important areas that relate to technologies of computer hardware and software. Students with logical thinking and apt problem-solving skills best fit this program.

Diploma in Automobile Engineering: This program has a strength of 60 students and intended for those that have a keen interest in automotive technology. The criteria for entry are based on 10th standard marks but preference is given to those who have an understanding of basic sciences.

Diploma in Civil Engineering: The program offers 30 seats and grounds candidates well in civil engineering principles. Candidates with good analytical skills and an interest in construction and infrastructure are ideal for this course.

Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering: This program takes in 30 students and prepares them with respect to electronic systems and communication technologies. Admission prioritizes students who score highly in Physics and Mathematics.
