Chandy College of Education, Thoothukudi was started in the year 2007 and is one of the reputed college which aims at moulding the prospective teachers. This co-educational college is situated in Thoothukudi city of Tamil Nadu and provides a proper course in teacher education only. The college situate on a small campus area of 0.645 acres; the college is affiliated and approved by the NCTE National Council for Teacher Education. At present, Chandy College of Education has 88 students and 13 faculties to give education facilities in a more close-knit manner to those who wants to become teachers.

An array of facilities to achieve the improvement of the educational process of Chandy College of Education is available. Accommodating and well equipped with reader’s corner student are motivated to include the habit of reading. Having realised the importance of practice in a college setting, the college has a specialised language lab, psychology lab, physical science lab, biological science lab, computer lab and educational technology lab. Chandy College of Education at present offers only one fully fledged course known as the Bachelor of Education programme (B.ed). This 2-year programme has an approved students intake of 50 students and this is because the college aims at maintaining a good student teacher ratio for improved quality education. The B.Ed programme is to ensure that students acquire the necessary academic content, professional competency and teaching practice for the teaching profession. What is more important to note is that the college provides education only for teachers, which ensures that the programme for the students is very focused and can cover all aspects of teaching in extent.

All admissions to Chandy College of Education are based on merit as guided by the state government, Union Territory administration, and the university to which the college is affiliated to. The grades scored in the qualifying examination as well as the examination for admission control test widely used across different institutions, are used in determining admission. The college may also use other methods of selection that are in vogue from time to time.
