Chatra College Chatra Established in 1961 is one of the premier institutions of Chhatra in the state of Jharkhand. This constituent college has a vast area of 20.66 acres and comprises of 4743 enrolled students along with a vast variety of academic courses. This is an affirmation of the college’s quest to offer quality education through it’s accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It offers 17 programmes in 6 degrees, with a concentration in arts and sciences, at Chatra College. In terms of gender distribution, a student population has almost an equal split; 2,449 female and 2,123 male students. These eight faculty members of the college are responsible for the academic mentoring and support, given to the student community.

They take pride in a vast array of facilities that help supplement what goes on in the classes. The major stock of books and journals are located in a large main library along with the reading hall that contains over a quarter of a million collection. To support the scientific interests of the students, facilities and equipment for Physics, Chemistry, Psychology along with laboratories are available. Additionally the college has a 400-seater fully equipped auditorium to host academic and cultural activities. In order to meet the requirements of the twenty first century, Chatra College provides Wi-Fi facility in all its buildings. There are also students’ sports facilities to ensure their health, including canteen where students can have to eat and to spend their time. Female students’ comfort is provided for in the college through the presence of only girls hostel. Other facilities are IT facilities, guest Accommodation, Parking facilities and basic medical aid through a box first aid.

Being an undergraduate college, Chatra College provides the students with plenty of choices, with the option being a total of 17 courses. The college mainly offers full time programmes and the fields of study are available in Arts and Sciences. The programme that attracts the highest interest is the Bachelor of Arts (BA), the College’s largest intake capacity of 1,888. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) comes a close second with 656 seats. For candidates who have completed their senior secondary, the college provides a two-year B.El Edu Self Finance course for 100 students. BCA Self Finance and B.Sc Computer Application Hons Self Finance programmes had 50 and 30 intakes respectively to meet the increasing trend of the computer technology programme. 

Admission into this institution is majorly done on merit since Chatra College rewards intelligence and hard work. Thus, the availability of undergraduate courses such as BA & B.Sc etc, every student got admission from their respective qualifying examination results. The B.Ed Self Finance programme, though, is structured differently from the other programmes as described below. Qualified candidates will be admitted to this course on the basis of marks they have secured in the qualifying examination, entrance test, and any other selection process as per the norms of the state government, UT administration and this university. It is also a favourable strategy to make sure that all the deserving and capable candidates get selected in the programme.
