Chenab College of Education, Jammu, is an affiliate college that was started in 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir. Located in the village of Langer across from SBI Langer, Kaluchak, this is a co-educational institution that has been training the future teachers for more than twenty years. The college is located over a tightly fitted 2 acre campus and gives the students a favourable learning environment that the college wants to provide. Over 134 enroled students and with a faculty complement of 10 educators, the learning environment in Chenab College of Education remains relatively small, thus providing an ideal learning environment coupled with strong student-teacher relations.
The computer labs, library, cafeteria and lecture theaters are among the facilities that the college boasts of for the improvement of the learning experiences of its students. The girls’ hostel is one of the major facilities with a capacity of more than 150 students with facilities like a mess, bed and a television with a resident warden. The college library consists of more than forty forty 4000 books and gains membership with the leading educational journals to feed the intellectual requirements of the scholars. An IT and computer laboratory is also available for practical training; Chenab College of Education has recently upgraded this unit to cater for the latest trend in technological innovation. The college also has a health center for first aid asking the welfare of the students. This college has also made provision for its sportsmen and women and those interested in any form of sporting activity as the college provides a sports facility, while the college also has a canteen where students and the teaching staff take their foods. Also, it has an auditorium for seminars, functions and other purposes, practical laboratories by departments and a gym for exercise freaks.
Chenab College of Education currently offers one primary course, the Bachelors in Education (B.ED) programme. This is a two year full time course, which aims at producing competent teachers in order to promote a noble profession.
The admissions to Chenab College of Education depend on score obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The college functions under the existing policies formulated at the state level with regards to the admission standards set by the state government; Union Territory administration and the university with which the college is affiliated to.
