It is enlightened that Christian College of Physical Education was opened in the year 2008, situated at Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, India, the premier college for physical education. This coed institution associated with the state university has already established itself as one of the important centres for sports and physical education. Located on a large piece of land measuring 12 acres, the college is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Currently, the college has 65 students and 7 faculty members where successful graduates in physical education are sought.
The college possesses an almost unbelievable roster of facilities that have the expressed purpose of developing the students mind, body and soul. In the central part of the campus there is a modern sports hall for various types of sports sections and a gym that will allow students to train intensively. Christian College of Physical Education boasts a library that boasts over 3,000 books and contains 22 sporting journals for the college community and everyone interested in sporting studies. For the students who need to stay, there are separate hostels for boys and girls to make out-station students comfortable. The campus also has an auditorium for event and seminars, a health centre that has first aid facilities, and a canteen for catering to the college community’s culinary needs. Very technologically updated, the college boasts good equipment and facilities, including a centrally air-conditioned computer laboratory that came equipped with a high-speed internet connection where computer education formed part of daily education.
Christian College of Physical Education at present has only one course, and that is Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed). This 3 years programme has an approval to admit 100 students which is a clear indication of the college's intention to control the student population per class in order to offer every student the best chance in class. The B.P.Ed programme is structured to provide the students a broad and hands-on knowledge on the foundational areas of physical education in order to help them prepare for careers in sports coaching, fitness training, and physical education education.
Huge emphasis is also placed on admission, and apt students are selected for this institute by giving them entrance based on merit only. The selection criteria are: Internal assessment test Results of the entrance examination,, which involve; written test fitness examination and interview session. Further, the percentage scored in the qualifying examination along with an added percentage for higher studies are also considered. This holistic assessment procedure meets state government and affiliated university policies to ensure the objective and equitable admission process.
