CICS College of Teacher Education, Calicut, was established in the year 2005 and has focused on the future of education. This co-educational college is situated in M.G Nagar, Calicut, Kerala. This college is under the affiliation of University of Calicut and recognizsd by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The campus of CICS, covering a small area of 2.56 acres, comes with the advantage of providing a learning environment that is clear and favourable. The college has sanctioned strength of 100 students and 9 faculties and thus, has maintained good student teacher ratio providing individual care and better learning
CICS College of Teacher Education has equipped itself with a number of contemporary facilities intended to complement the process of learning their students undergo. The college has a well-equipped laboratory facility which comprises a Mathematics laboratory, Natural Science laboratory, Physical Science laboratory, and a Social Science laboratory. These labs are equipped with necessary laboratory equipment for experiments in Physics, chemistry, and Biology, meeting the course standards. Besides, faculty wise the college has a multipurpose auditorium, sports facilities, and a cafeteria for extra and co curricular activities and programmes respectively. It also has a health care centre offering first aid facilities to the learners. CICS has available hostels for the male and female students so that learners from remote areas are provided with decent places to stay.
At present, CICS College of Teacher Education offers one primary course, the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). This is a full-time course, which takes two years to complete and is intended to produce qualified teachers for the school sector. The college has a clearance to admit 50 students for this programme to assure high standards in education through setting restricted large classes. The course offered at CICS provides diverse areas of education theory and practice in B.Ed to meet the emerging needs in education field.
The admission requirements at CICS College of Teacher Education are fair so that anyone who wishes to join that college could easily do so. Half of the total admitted students are given based on merit list received from the Government of Kerala so that, students in the state can get chances to join the university through merit list. The rest of the fifty percent is provided by the management through public advertisements and invites application from the public. This means that a balanced approach can be able to achieve good enrolment of students from all backgrounds while at the same time making sure that the quality of the students admitted is good enough to achieve the set academic milestones.
