College of Climate Change and Environmental Science [CCCES] is one of the specialized colleges of the Kerala Agricultural University established during the academic year 2010-11. This very special college is located in Vellanikkara, Thrissur, Kerala to specifically deal with environmental problems and climate change and environmental science. Located on a 5 acre piece of land, CCCES has a small student population of 91 students and the learning environment is well delimited. The college is staffed with 7 dedicated members of the faculty and has wonderful student to teacher ratios. Currently, CCCES provides only one academic program at the specialized level, which proves the center’s focus on the provision of an intensive education on climate change and environmental sciences.
In order to meet the needs of its students, CCCES offers numerous services to help student excel in their academic and personal lives. The college therefore boasts of good laboratory facilities such as soil and biochemistry laboratories which are essential in practical within the environmental college. They also benefit from state of the art technology laboratories in other affiliated and neighboring KAU colleges. The institution computer central computer laboratory provides up to date computer systems which are connected to the internet and WiFi on a twenty-four seven basis hence making sure that the students get the best resources with which to study. For our Physical Well Being CCCES has provision of football field, volley ball court, Basket ball court as well as a cricket ground where the school supports any student who wishes to participate in inter-college and inter-university games.
The college currently offers one full-time undergraduate programme: Bachelor of Science in Climate Change and Environmental Sciences (honors). This structured course has a pre accredited enrollment capacity of 30students in order to ensure that the institution is able to produce quality education in a specific niche. The programme takes three years; during which the student is equipped with adequate knowledge and skills in Climate Change and environmental Sciences. The above focused approach enables CCCES to deliver more of its graduates, who are well equipped to confront other current environmental issues.
The admission procedure can be said to be centralised to a considerable extent as the main criteria to get into CCCES is the NEET ranks. Education requirement: This position is open for persons with a past learning in biology or mathematics. This contributes to ensuring that the college admits more than 90% of students’ qualified in sciences to enable them to handle upcoming hard tasks. The opportunity that the college specialises in gives it a large popularity among students in Kerala, as the statistics of the present year demonstrates: 100% of the college’s students are locals. It is worth to note that the college enrols a larger number of women, whereas 79% of its undergraduate students are women, which means that the given field is developing in the right direction to become more gender-diverse.
