About College of Home Science, Bikaner

The College of Home Science, for women was established in 1988 as a constituent unit of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner. This institution is housed in Bikaner, Rajasthan and offers courses and research in home science only. I wanted to put the college in a central location with a large expansice piece of land to enable achievement of it’s objectives; the college occupies 10 acres of land thus providing adequate space for learning. A total number of 92 students had registered for the college while the direct faculty support available in the college is 9, which makes the college a place where each student can get personal attention besides getting quality education from the college. They have ten courses in four degree programs, hence resulting in home science and food and nutrition, community development courses.

Facilities are provided in the College of Home Science, Bikaner which will help the students in some way or the other. The college has a fully air-conditioned library as an important college facility to provide books and other resources for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students. For students who need accommodation, the college provides Hostels – Boys Hostel and Girls Hostel respectively – with 38 single seater and 22 double seater rooms respectively so as to live with decency.

The campus includes a cafeteria for student dining, as well as an open-air canteen to give students a wide selection of meals. With regards to the physical aspect the College has a college sports complex and a health-First Aid clinic. The mini auditorium which is used for cultural functions, college activities contributes to active campus lifestyle. Besides, the college also offers transport facilities through mini buses, and adequate parking space and guest house facility to accommodate visiting faculty members and their families.

The college has ten regular courses and these are, Bae Home Science (Hons), Bae Community Science (Hons), Bae Food Nutrition and Dietetics (Hons). In the post graduate levels, students can opt M.Sc. Home Science, Food and Nutrition, Extension Education and Communication Management, Resource Management and Consumer Science, Human Development and Family Studies. In research area the college has opened PhD programs in Extension Education and Communication Management as well as Food and Nutrition.
