The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Berhampur was set up in 1979 at Berhampur in Odisha, India, is one of oldest institution serving the cause of pharmaceutical education in the region. It is affilianted to Berhampur University and is established in a 23 acre sprawling campus in Mohuda, Ganjam district. Recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) & Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) the institute has empowered its self in pharmaceutical education and research. Based upon the total intake of students and faculty that is 516 and 46 respectively, the college provides a proper learning environment for the students. It offersseven distinct programmes, two of which are undergraduate, and the other two are postgraduate, for students interested in the different subfields of pharmaceutical science.
It has equipped this college with various functional facilities that can enhance its learning activities. An adequately equipped library has a collection of 8,300 books and more than 37 national and international journals for the development of the student’s rich knowledge base. It has computer laboratory with 51 computer systems, out of which 25 are internet enabled to help the students make them abreast of the current development in technology. To spice up the students’ physical development, the college provides sports amenities and provisions for a canteen. Closely following the concept of health and safety there is an on-campus health care center that provides first aid. For the convenience of out station students the institution also has boys hostel and girls hostel located in Berhampur town.
The Pharmacy College of Science Berhampur has recognised academic courses offering different courses on pharmacy. One undergraduate course, the B.Pharma offers 100 seats while the postgraduate courses include the M.Pharma in Pharmaceutics, M.Pharma in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the M.Pharma in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance, which take 15 students each. All the courses offered are full time in compliance with the institute’s philosophy of providing intensive practical training in pharmaceutical sciences. The total approved intake across all the courses offered in the university at the current level is 145 students per year which has a great contribution in producing the right number of manpower required in the health sector particularly in the production of pharmaceutical products.
