The College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences: Pookode, Lakkidi P.O., Wayanad, recognised in 2004, is an affiliated college in Kerala. A college has a rich course offering with 49 courses in eight degree programmes. These include undergraduate, post graduate, and doctoral degrees in sub-fields of Veterinary and Animal Science. The B.V.Sc. and Animal Husbandry constitute the flagship course in veterinary education and train students in several aspects of veterinary medicine. At the post graduate level, the college offers M.V.Sc. courses in the field of Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Microbiology, Reproduction in Animals and many more. They are accommodated in hall of residence depending on the availability in sexes and sections for boys as well as girl students. The college gives priority to the applied approach to education, and students can practice with different animal facilities and enterprises.
The requirements for entering any particular programme differ. For the B.V.Sc., the admission of students to A.H. programme is done in accordance with the direct control of the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations of Kerala and the Veterinary Council of India by achievement of NEET-UG. Courses for postgraduate admissions are offered through an entrance examination carried out by the respective university with a certain number of seats earmarked for ICAR.
Admission to the Ph. D. programmes requires the candidates to take an entrance test and appear for an interview. Degree wise Admission Process
B.V.Sc. and Animal Husbandry: Admission to this flagship undergraduate programme is conducted based on the NEET-UG score of the candidate. The selection process is regulated by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations of Kerala and the Veterinary Council of India. The candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects.
M.V.Sc. Courses: The college offers various M.V.Sc. specializations like Animal Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition, Veterinary Microbiology, etc. Entrance through an examination conducted by the university is a common practice for most M.V.Sc. courses.
