Contai D. Ed. College was set up in 2012 as an affiliated college at Contai in West Bengal. This is an NCTE recognized institution which is exclusively focused on offering teacher education programmes. Situated on a compact 1.53-acre campus, the college offers two full-time courses: Bachelors of Education (B. Ed) and Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed). Contai D. Ed. College enrols 290 students for its course and has a faculty of 23 members which ensures a concentration of the students on B. Ed course.

The college has provides number of amenities to improve the quality of education of students. Having a good number of books and other resources makes a library important as it supplied important resource required for training the teachers. The auditorium is used in different programmes and seminars hence creating a lively academic environment. For students’ physical health, sports hall is open for students. The college offers numerous sporting amenities to all learners. The college also has a canteen to make sure that those who would like to dine do so conveniently for they are known to be busy persons especially students and members of staff. 

Like all the other contemporary educational demands, Contai D. Ed. College has set up a remarkable IT facility. Thirdly, the institution has a guest house and waiting area for visiting faculty and student family members. Departmental laboratories include aspiring teachers for practical teaching experiences so that they can be prepared adequately. Another area that the college pays attention to is health and there is a first aid facility in the health section of the college.

Contai D. Ed. College has two major educational courses in teacher education. B.Ed is a two-year full-time course and the programmme is approved to have a total of one hundred students intake. The two-year full time D.El.Ed programme admitted fifty students every year for the programme. These programmes are aimed at preparing student teachers to meet all the competencies that are expected of teachers in classrooms. The total enrolment of the college is as large as its intake capacity that is, 290 students and hence the rational behind it to train more and more the potential teachers for the region.

The admission policy of the Contai D. Ed. College is an implementation of policies and guidelines as prescribed by the state government and the university with which it is affiliated. In both B.Ed and D.El.Ed admission, preference will be given to the merit of the candidate based on the scores in the qualifying examination. Entrance test is also set or other methods of selection is followed as per the requirements set in the state level for admission to colleges.
