About Council of Analytical Tribal Studies, Koraput

The Council of Analytical Tribal Studies, Koraput (COATS) is an analytical institution of higher learning for the study of tribes-category institution was established in the year 1993. Situated in Koraput Odisha , this affiliated college occupies a small area of 2.06 acres and has a faculty that offers a focused academic for those students who are interested to study about the tribal cultures. COATS offers two postgraduate research programmes: The two fully residential courses are Ph.D. and M.Phil in Tribal Studies each of two-year duration. Aimed at the completion of tribal research based projects, the institute employs a faculty of only three members in order to be able to give the scholars appropriate attention and direction.

In the light of academic infrastructure, COATS value their research facilities as the core foundation to their programmes. The institute has the largest inventory of knowledge resources known as library which contains more than 7000 items like books, bound journals, evaluation reports and Ph.D., M.Phil dissertations. Despite the fact that all materials are well sorted and indexed using the Dewey Decimal Classification system, the researchers were able to access the materials easily. There are also departmental laboratory facilities in the campus whereby the scholars get practical experience on the area of specialisation. To be tailored the needs of its diverse students, the institute runs different hostels for males and female students.
