The Council of Analytical Tribal Studies in Koraput (COATS) is an advanced institution leaning on tribal studies. Located in Koraput, Odisha, COATS runs two master's research programs, namely the PhD and M.Phil programs in Tribal Studies. They are fully residential programs of two years each. The institute is focused on academic programs addressing students interested in studying tribal cultures.

Both programs are completely residential and immerse students in the COATS research environment. The three-member faculty carries out a highly personal style of mentoring with the research scholars.
