The University of Kalyani, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the highly reputed constituent colleges, in Kalyani, West Bengal. It was initiated as a co-educational institute in 1992. Recognized by AICTE, the prime objective of the institution is to spread meaningful education in the field of Computer Science. All three PG courses such as M. Tech, MCA, and Ph.D. are offered concerning different academic interest. The focused learning environment, faculty strength of 7 members is present in the department. The facilities of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering vary between good to very good, so much so that it will provide an enriching learning environment. The departmental library comprises about 2000 books. The library is continuously being updated with new books to keep the students attuned with the ever-evolving computer science. Apart from these, two well-equipped computing laboratories comprising about 50 nos of Desktop PCs, 10 nos of thin clients, and 3 nos of servers of well-reputed brands like IBM, Dell, and Sun are available to students. Digital electronics laboratory is adequately equipped with oscilloscopes, microprocessor kits, and interfacing facilities. Hands-on practice in optical fiber communication tools is offered in the communication engineering laboratory. The IT infrastructure in the department is very good. All computers are interlinked through a Departmental LAN further connected to the University fiber optic backbone, which provides a 4 Mbps Internet connection. Modern classrooms with LCD projectors supplement the chalk-and-board methodology of traditional teaching pedagogy for a dynamic learning environment.
A total of three full-time courses have been offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. These are M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, MCA, and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Applications. All of these programs have a common mission of producing efficient professionals and researchers in the fields of computer science and engineering.

The admission process in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is different for various courses. Degree wise Admission Process
M. Tech Computer Science and Engineering: 18 seats are to be filled for this program. MCA (Master of Computer Applications) - The MCA program has 30 seats. It is a full-time program. Admission to the MCA program is based on West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for Masters in Computer Application (WB JECA), a state-level examination held to judge the aptitude of students in computer science and allied fields. Candidates who pass the JECA are eligible for admission into the MCA program.
Ph. D. Computer Science and Applications: The department conducts its own entrance test for Ph. D. admissions twice every year. It is selected through a written test and interview. This stringent procedure ensures that candidates who are admitted to the Ph. D. program in computer science possess excellent research potential and academic ability.
